Lauded for his artistic interpretations and technical brilliance, Qing Lun has established himself as an outstanding young Singaporean dizi performer, boasting a series of international and local accolades. Currently a postgraduate student in the Shanghai Conservatory under the tutelage of internationally acclaimed dizi master Professor Zhan Yong Ming, Qing Lun’s awards include the 2005 Gold Award of the Ting Yu Cup International Youth Dizi Competition in China and 1st prize in the Singapore National Chinese Music Competition Dizi Youth Category in 2006, among others.
Besides the dizi, Qing Lun’s interest in flute performance has led him to expand his knowledge and repertoire by learning the Indian flute from Mr Ghanavenothan Retnam and Japanese Shakuhachi from Mr Ueno Koshuzan. He has also recorded a Hulusi albumfor the National grading in China, together with the Ding Yi Music Company in 2013.
He is currently the Ensemble Manager of Ding Yi Music Company as well as Secretary of the Singapore Dizi Society. Apart from playing the flute, Qing Lun enjoys conducting and he has successfully led Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) Chinese orchestra and Woodlands Primary School toa Gold award in the Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging 2011 and 2012 respectively. Qing Lun is currently a recipient of the National Arts Council Arts Scholarship (Postgraduate) of 2012 for his studies in China.
